Window to life... literature
Literature the window to the world
My Endeavour to dabble into literature for the purpose of sharing is an inner urge. It is a basic human urge which is the cause and source of language through which the human intellects communicate. The urge may vary by degrees with individuals. There may be situations where individuals may feel that their voice is not carrying itself far enough.
Hence they change the medium and delve into the written word or in todays world into the electro-cyber media thinge.
I have frequently come across pieces on the net which warn readers not to proceed further since the are meant for the eclectic crowd. I fail to comprehend if it is indeed an effort to edge the reader on, to challenge and entice him or if it is indeed beyond normal minds to digest the pages that are contained therein.
My inspiration however stems from things other than the effort to establish myself as a seminal mind (which I am not in any case). My inspiration stems from a quote which is at times attributed to a critic who said about Sir Lawrence Olivier that “the ease with which he performs makes one believe that not only is it only natural that the character should have behaved the way he did but also that anyone give the opportunity could have done just as well if not better.”
To further my thought on these lines I will quote MR Price. While writing a preface to his book he said I am indebted to my students for having forced me to think in clearer and simpler terms which has borne fruit in the form of this book” (MR Price subsequently got the Nobel prize for Economics).
Hence my conclusion that in thinking on clearer lines not only do we involve more minds which results in an enrichment of the environment but also by virtue of this massive participation we stumble upon bigger ideas.
If mass involvement in the ideas that float through the mind is not the objective then what exactly is the point of sharing it with the world at large through the printed word?
Literature is known as the window to the world. A very witty comic who had a masters in literature was once asked “ if literature is the window on life how close was he to it” and his reply which I can never forget was “ in have stepped out the window”.
Purpose of bringing in the thing on window is that if you read literature you may not enjoy all the greats who are recommended. One may even be led to feel that there is something terribly wrong with the aesthetic faculty that one possess. However let me assure you that this is not so. It is just a matter of finding the right opening at the right time which leads one to the window and it is through this window once found that other pieces of literature start falling in their place.
From here on I will start giving my views on poets as they come to my mind in terms of focal points of the window. So this blog may kindly be considered under construction for the next few weeks or more.
